This winter was long in Europe and really cold weather postponed start of the fishing season. Even night temperatures are still under minus on the Celsius scale, last few days we had a short periods of sun, and temperatures went up to 8 degrees around the noon. Not much, but enough for bass fishing. The best approach in such early spring conditions with at lot of the wind is to search them around the bushes with some jerbait suspended lures. Windy weather will not allow you to go with finesse soft lures, so slowly wobbling and light twitching with the jerbaits can provoke bass to follow the lure and attack it.
After long winter fish are untouched, they already forgot previous experiences with the hooks and will attack lures with less caution, so you can have really nice fishing and expect decent size of fish. Duo International have offer of bass lures for every conditions. Here I would like to mention 3 lures that were working on a lake where I was fishing. First lure is the new version of Realis Rozante SP in size of 77 mm. I would say the best lure size for all bass sizes. The action of this lure is amazing. In this early season you should do it slowly retrieving with finesse, soft twitching action and keeping the lure is the area you are expecting to have fish attack. Fish will gladly attack the lure, but will not run for lure if we retrieve it to fast. So do it slowly and gentle, and Rozante will do the rest.
Second choice for me will be Realis Jerkbait 100 SP. Standard stop and retrieve twitching action will work here, but again with less power than in a later season. This is great lure for power fishing and searching when you can not see fish like in a windy conditions. Of course this lure will trigger pike as well as bass and this is why I prefer size 100 to avoid pike attacks if possible. I wonder what a hit it would be if Duo will release the size od 90 mm in SP version. I think there is a gap between Rozante 77SP and Jerkbait 100SP, and I will be happy to see any of these lures in size 90 mm SP.
Third choice these days in my bass fishing was not suspend vobler, but slowly sinking Tide Minnow 75 Sprint. With this lure I was able to go deeply with slowly retrieving action with pauses. This lure is my choice for seabass, but it is working perfectly on black bass too. Finally it gave me the biggest bass of a week.
